Barsana Eye Camp 2008

Barsana Eye Camp 2008

An old lady, about 70 years with wrinkles on her face was found pleading the security near the operation theatre complex at Barsana. “Mujhe Dr. Jugal Shah se ek baar milwa dijiye”(Help me meet Dr. Jugal Shah once). She was virtually begging with folded hands. The security was trying to pacify her that she cannot meet him now. She tried her last weapon “Tu to mere bete jaisa hai…kya tu mere dil ki baat nahi samajh sakta?.” (You are like my son…can’t you understand my feelings?)

In the mean time, Dr. Jugal who just came out of the OT to meet another surgeon, heard his name being discussed at the OT entrance. The security mentioned her that it might take 3-4 hours for him to come out of the OT. She replied “Toh kya hua…main zindagi bhar bhi intezar kar sakti hoon.” On hearing this, Dr. Jugal was curious & just peeped out to know what is happening. Upon seeing him she became joyous & active like a small girl. Without wasting much time she said “Doctor sahib aap ka chehra dekh kar ek baar dhnyavad bolna chahti hoon…kyunki pechle varsh aapne mera operation kiya tha, par patti kulne ke pehle aap chale gaye the (I wanted to see your face once & say thank you, since last year you did my surgery but left before the eyes were opened )

“Ab main apne ghar me sab ki madad kar sakti hoon…aur har din Sri Ladliji ke darshan leti hoon…aapka bahut bahut dhanyavad” (Now I am more helpful to my family by my service & I take the wonderful darshan of the Lord everyday…millions of thanks to you)

Dr. Jugal was spell bound & tears rolled down his cheeks. After composing himself he said, “I have been attending various camps in different parts of India & traveled and operated around the world. However, This is a camp with a difference…in the polluted dusty rural atmosphere, I could find such unpolluted Hearts full of Gratitude & Love.”
(As narrated by Dr. Jugal Shah Ophthalmologist)

Shri J P Guharay, Executive Director, Mathura Refineries while inaugurating the camp on 1st February 2008 said “We need such quality camps in rural areas to eradicate needless blindness. I am also happy to hear that over 2800 patients were screened & 716 patients will be operated for cataract... About 25 patients, including children who need special attention will be taken to Bhaktivedanta Hospital for specialized Eye Care and the hospital will bear all the expenses including travel, medicines, stay, cost of surgery etc.”
