Glorious Departure
Hospice & Palliative Care
The Hospice and Palliative Care initiative of the hospital has benefitted several patients.
“One day, when I returned from the bank where I was working, I saw my wife reeling in pain with my 8 year daughter Manisha trying to give her water & counsel her in faltering voice. Upon seeing me entering the house, my daughter ran & held me tightly crying “Papa, mummy is having severe pain & she is unable to bear it”. I immediately took her to Bhaktivedanta Hospital. After a few tests & reports, Dr. B. C. Shah & Dr. Sarang broke the news to me that my wife has Breast Cancer.
The entire life changed its course & we all became broken hearted. On one hand, I was doing my best to support my wife physically, mentally & emotionally and on the other hand, my little Manisha too needed to be comforted and consoled. I gave father’s care & motherly love. Despite doing the best, myself & wife felt that something was missing. When we were struggling to figure it out, Dr. Avnish, the hospice physician of Bhaktivedanta Hospital came and spent time with us. After many hours of discussion we could feel that all of us are under going Spiritual pain.
The counselors came home to give us a helping hand & support and comforted us in the hour of need. Despite having shooting pain & horrible health, my wife became more introspective & turned her attention & pain as an opportunity to connect with God. I was praying intensely to the Lord. “Oh! My dear Krishna, please give her 3-4 years of life so that, my little Manisha would have grown up & I can manage her independently.” But, God had different plans & my wife succumbed to death calling out the Lord’s names. She developed lot of faith in Mrs. Padma who counseled her in her last days. The Hospital continued its care & support. Although we lost a family member we gained the family of Bhaktivedanta Hospital. We experienced a deep feeling of home away from home in the way the hospital, doctors, volunteers, counselors & staff of Bhaktivedanta Hospital injected fresh life into our empty sorrowful hearts.”
